Joseph Zawierucha

Joe has been a professional drummer and instructor for over 35 years.  After high school, Joe attended Northwestern University, majoring in Percussion Performance. He has performed with the Ralph Flanagan Orchestra, Al Hirt, the Dr. Theodore Ashford Jazz Trio and Grammy winner, Paul Winter. Joe is well-versed in all genres of music including, jazz, rock, Latin and classical.

Joe has been the leader of “Too Many Bongos”, a percussion ensemble that performs in Orange County schools.  He also was involved with sales and teaching at West Coast Drums for 31 years.

Joe has had several students with very successful careers in music. His former students include: Charles Morris, formerly of the Arsenio Hall Show, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, David Silvera of Korn, and Riley Breckenridge of Thrice.

Joe studied with various professionals in the Chicago area, including Edward Metzinger, Principal Percussionist of the Chicago Symphony.

Tom Ravel 
Drums


Tom teaches beginning to advanced techniques in all styles with a focus on timekeeping, reading, rudiments and stick control, while learning classic and

modern drumming styles from around the world.  He also works with students to pass audition requirements for orchestra, marching band, jazz band, and helps prepare them for live performances.  Tom brings over 30 years of professional experience to his students, guiding them to reach their musical goals through drumming.   

Tom began his music education at The Grove School of Music in Los Angeles followed by studies at the Musicians' Institute College of Music in Hollywood.  There, he received the outstanding drummer of the year award and since then, his professional career has led him to playing on stages across the United States and around the world in concert halls, theaters, jazz and rock venues, nightclubs and music festivals.  

In addition to touring, Tom has played on a wide variety of albums with many acclaimed international artists and has given drum workshops and concerts at the Orange County School of the Arts, Concordia and Chapman Universities, and the O.C. Performing Arts Center.  He continues to play live and in the studio with many of the southland's finest musicians.

Tom has worked/recorded with artists such as:
Richard Elliot, Leland Sklar, Paul Carman, Christopher Peacock, Sandy Owen, Ron Kobayashi, Baba Elephante, Hubert Tubbs, Luther Hughes, Mark Massey,  Arthur Davis, Llew Mathews, Nancy Rumble, and the strings of the Seattle Symphony.

 

 

Johnny Byrne

Johnny is a well-respected drummer who has appeared in many types of settings performing within many genres. Johnny Byrne’s impressive technique and flexibility have kept him touring and performing throughout the last 30 years. Johnny started playing drums at the age of seven, influenced by the sights and sounds of New York City, and then as a resident of Miami, Florida during his youth. He attended the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in Music, all the while honing his skills by training in New York City with Robert Pedacchio (who played with Maynard Ferguson) and by performing throughout the United States in a variety of venues.

Johnny has played with artists such as: Clarence Clemmons, Todd Bradley & Next Level, Donna Allen, Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, Blue Notes, Greg Vail, Eugene Wilde, Nicole "Lillie" McCloud, Emmanuel, Drake Bell of the Drake and Josh Show on Nickelodeon and jazz saxophonist, Ed Calle. John has also toured and recorded with KC and the Sunshine Band on the Get Down and Live Yummy compilations. He has played throughout Australia, Europe, Asia, Indonesia and Central and South America. Johnny is currently recording with David Royce Aaron, who has produced and engineered for the likes of Snoop Dog, U2 and the original Sublime lineup. Johnny has also studied with Dave Weckl. Johnny can be seen performing throughout southern California with Oceans of Sand.

 

 

Karl Aranjo

Guitar

 

Karl Aranjo is a professional guitarist, author and highly talented educator, residing in Southern California. His former students include music school graduates and several recording artists.

Karl is the author of six best-selling, industry standard instructional books, Guitar Buddy, The Working Musician’s Dictionary of Terms, A Blueprint for Hot Guitar, Cool Chords and the internationally acclaimed Guitar Chord Guru and Guitar Scale Guru.

A Graduate of the Berklee College of Music and a student of the late William G. Leavitt, Karl studied with some of the best in the business, including Tony Mottola, Ted Greene, Jim Kelly, Larry Baione and Robert Conti. Karl is the leader of the Jazz Attack Band and is a highly sought-after private teacher. In addition to his Berklee degree in Music Performance, he holds degrees in Psychology and Education.

Karl’s work is done purely out of a desire to serve his fellow musicians and to bring his specialized knowledge to all who thirst for it. His lessons are informative, inspirational and fun!

 

 

Rich Cozzi

Guitar • Banjo • Ukulele and other stringed instruments
 

Over thirty years playing and instructing experience with specialization in Guitars, Banjo, Ukulele and other stringed instruments. Rich received his degree from the University of Maryland and studied music theory, its practical application to the instrument, improvisation, harmony and composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. 

 

He has also studied privately with numerous teachers throughout the country including Hank Wiktoriwitz of the Boston Pops, Jon Damian, Berklee Guitar Chairman Larry Baione and internationally known Charlie Banocus.

 

Rich has performed throughout the Northeast and California including The Sweet and Hot Jazz Festival  in Los Angeles, The Bakersfield Jazz Festival, Cape Cod Jazz Festival and at numerous night clubs and social events.

 

Rich teaches both privately and in a classroom setting.  He is currently a faculty member in the music department at the Tarbut V’ Torah School and formerly at Concordia University.



 

 

Nels Jenstad

Nels Jenstad has studied music, theory, jazz and studio production in California Colleges and did his grad work in Music Psychology in 2002. He has performed

 

throughout California with his original rock - at venues including the Japan Center, Live Oak Theater, Concord Theater, McKinney Theater, and various clubs.
 

 

 

Linda White

Linda White has been musically active in Orange County for over forty years, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music performance from the University of California at Irvine. She is a professional flutist and teacher, published arranger and has performed, produced and directed music in many styles, appearing at the Long Beach Convention Center, Disney Hall, The Granada Theater in Santa Barbara, The Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, The Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall, as well as touring the United States and Western Europe as a performer.

Linda is in her tenth year as the Director of Choral and Handbell Music at Laguna Presbyterian Church, where she directs the Chancel and Handbell Choirs as well as the Children’s Choir and Middle School Ensemble. Prior to that, she spent thirteen years on music staff at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana, five of those as Praise Band Director, and several years teaching music for an inner-city children’s program. She has edited a book of praise music, which is published and distributed by Geneva Press and is currently available in bookstores across the country.

 

 

Jim Ziegler

Trumpet

 

Jim Ziegler has been the trumpet instructor at Jim's Music since 1992. He is a first call sub at New Orleans Square at Disneyland, and can often be found performing there with The Royal Street Bachelors and The Jambalaya Jazz  Band.  In addition, he leads his own classic jazz /swing group The Swingsations and works with a variety of traditional jazz and swing groups in the LA area.  He enjoys working with trumpet students at any level, from beginner to adult.

 

 

 

 

Linda Cessna

Piano, Guitar, Electric Bass

 

Linda has over 15 years of teaching experience, and brings an element of fun to her music lessons, coupled with a solid music foundation.  With many students ranging in age from 4 to 74, she tailors her lessons to fit each student’s abilities and skill levels.  Whether her students choose to learn music for fun, or with an

 eye toward performance, Linda confidently guides them toward their musical goals.  With the training they have received, many of her students successfully pass auditions for talent shows, jazz band, orchestra, musical/dramatic performances, or join music ministry groups and bands. 

 

In addition to private lessons, Linda has taught programs in music, music theory, and music history, as well as organizing and leading children’s choirs at private schools.  She has also been involved in songwriting and recording projects over the years.

 

Linda is a great advocate of expanding one’s musical horizons.  While classically trained, she provides a curriculum that encompasses all musical styles.  She continues to hone her own musical skills with respected musicians and educators in the music community – she has studied with the likes of Ron Kobayashi (piano) Barry Rillera (guitar) and Max Bennett (electric bass).   She has been an active member of her church worship group for over 12 years, playing guitar and bass on a weekly basis. 

 

 

Vince Hizon

Saxophone, flute, clarinet

 

Vince Hizon is an active freelance musician and instructor in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. He earned an Associate's Degree in Music from Fullerton College, a degree in music education from California State Fullerton, and a Master's degree in flute, clarinet, and saxophone performance.

 

Vince has shared the stage with artists such as Stolen Babies, Hepcat, members of the Oingo Boingo, Wayne Newton, Pete Jacobs Wartime Orchestra, and others. He has been teaching saxophone and clarinet at Jim's Music Center since 2007.

 

 

Lou Savage
Double Bass, Electric Bass and Voice

Lou's musical journey began in Erie, PA, then to Boston, then to Cleveland and finally to Los Angeles where he lives today.

He graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a degree in Doublebass (often referred to as an upright bass). At the Cleveland Institute, Lou studied orchestral and opera repertoire with Larry Angell and Dave Perlman of the Cleveland Orchestra.

He's created music for companies like JVC, Kawai and Disney and has performed with acts ranging from Cab Calloway, Eartha Kitt, The Righteous Brothers and Percy Sledge, to comedians like Bob Hope and Jay Leno. For Lou's full bio and more information, visit www.lousavage.com

 

 

 

 

Tom Flannery

Tom Flannery has over 20 years of experience in all types of musical

instruction. He holds degrees in Music

and Education from Chapman University

and UCIrvine.

Kris Berry
Drums & Percussion

 

 

Kris Berry has a Bachelors degree in Music from California State 

University Northridge, and has worked professionally in a variety 

of styles including jazz, latin, rock, funk, r&b, and classical. He has gotten to work with many of the finest musicians in Southern California, and has teamed up to perform clinic/performances with musicians such as Luis Conte, Richie Gagate Garcia, Taku Hirano, and Roland Gajate Garcia. He’s also performed clinics with bassist, Tony Franklin, as well as Richard Fortus, guitarist with Guns N’ Roses.

     Kris is also very happy to have gigged with many world class musicians including Michito Sanchez, Kevin Ricard, Clare Fischer, Otmaro Ruiz, Smokey Robinson, Teena Marie, Denice Williams, Stu Goldberg, Art Davis, Doc Severenson, Tim Bogert, Rique Pantoja, Derron Johnson, Doug Lunn, Ron Eschete, Dave Stone, Ron Stout, Rob Whitlock, John Pisano, Fred Katz, Gloria Gaynor, Jeff Kashiwa, Vinnie Falcone, Massamba Diop, Casio Duarte, Ron Kobayashi, John Heussenstamm, Baba Elephante, and Dylan Wilson, among many others. Kris has been hired for many different types of gigs including a variety show where he had the pleasure of performing with the host, actor/comedian Jason Alexander. He has also worked with Ed Begly Jr., performing in his musical “Cesar And Ruben”.

  Kris was on the faculty at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood from 2001 to 2013. There he taught the double bass drumming class, the odd meters class, afro-cuban drumming class, caribbean drumming class, jazz drums class, rhythm section workshops, live playing workshops, applying technique to the drum set class, music reading 1,2,& 3, fill fest (drum fills class), funk, r&b, and hip-hop classes, as well as open counseling, and private instruction.

       Kris has studied privately with: Luis Conte, Peter Erskine, Jeff Hamilton , Joey Heredia, Jimmy Branly, Gerry Brown, Wally Snow, Roy Burns, Peter Donald, Joel Leach , Karen Ervin, John Magnussen, Brian Kilgore, Rob Carson, and Les De Merle.
